Hello Central Families!

CWP (Central Wildcat Pride Parent Teacher Group) meeting tomorrow night- 6:00 P.M. in Central’s Library

Computers for Education forms went home Friday. There is nothing to sell- just post cards that get filled out. We will receive money for each one filled out, not based on things purchased. A flyer is attached.

Pasta House has brought back the 10% toward the school promotion. This time you do not have to have the flier with you. You can just let your server know that you want to have a form to fill out to get 10% of your bill back to Central! A flyer is attached.

Central Movie Night- Jan 20th- 7:00 PM- Dolphin Tail will be showing. Admission is FREE for everyone! For Central students their first popcorn and drink is free. For everyone else and additional purchases for Central students, the popcorn and drinks are .50 cents.

What a wonderful Veterans Day assembly we had this morning! Thank you to everyone that was able to attend! We are sorry we missed those of you that were unable to attend. Thank you for your commitment and service to our freedom!

Attached you will find the weekly news letter.

You will notice on it that we have the 2nd Annual Turkey Bowl on November 21st and 22nd. It will be taking place during the day here at Central in our front hallway. We are looking for four or five volunteers that could come in that day and help run the event. It is very simple and I will be available to help part of the time. If you are interested please email me or call the office.
We are also looking for volunteer help in our library through the week. This would be helping shelve books and helping students find books and check them out. Thursday and Fridays are when the most help is needed. Below is the explanation of what is needed to volunteer in the library per School Board Policy.

Background check procedures have been implemented due to new laws and for the safety of all students. The following is a list of required checks:

A. Full Background Check w/prints - (supervision of students)

Overview

Background checks for volunteers will need to be done every year (fingerprints every five [5] years and $10 name search all other years). Parents who completed the $51 background check in 2006-07 will be grandfathered for five (5) years, but will still be required to complete name search each year at the District’s expense.

Principals or designee need to distribute background check forms to parents and collect applications. Volunteers will mail fingerprint card/form to the state. Name check forms will be completed by the volunteer and submitted to the building principal. Principals will submit name check forms only to Central Office for processing. Central Office is responsible for establishing and maintaining a database for all volunteers.

Operation Homefront Care Package Donation Drive

Starting October 21st, Central Elementary Student Council will be conducting a care package donation drive for service members. Students will bring in items for care packages.

We will begin taking items at the Fall Festival this Friday t
he 21st. Anyone who brings items to the Fall Festival will get a gift from Operation Homefront, an organization that provides assistance to families and wounded service members.

The class that collects the most items during the entire drive will also receive prizes.

Collection will run from October 21st to October 28th.

Some items that can be donated are:
Personal hygiene items (no aerosol cans)
Letters and “Thank You” cards
Toys (travel games, decks of cards, puzzles)
Comic books

The Walk-A-Thon was a huge success! Our top two collecting students were:

Emily Bell with $500.00

We have 90 students eligible for the limo ride that raised at least $100.00 dollars. The plan is to have the limo trips to Dairy Queen on November 2nd and 3rd. Yes, it is going to take two days!

Monday is the last day to turn in Walk-A-Thon money! Thanks to everyone that has participated!!

Thursday is the event. We are starting at 8:15 with 2nd and 3rd graders and then at 10:00 the K and 1st graders will walk. On Thursday we are going to close the drive around the building at 7:50 so we can start setting up. You will still be able to drop off students around the flag pole if you are running late.
If you would like to help with the event let me know. In order to help, we will need to make sure you have the free name check completed. There are forms for this in the office but, we will be cutting it very close on getting them returned in time.

We had a great week here at Central! The kids have been wonderful and learning a lot with the teachers!

You will find our News Letter, Walk-A-Thon and Pasta House information attached.

We will continue to collect money for the Walk-A-Thon until October 3rd but, if you want the free t-shirt you need to collect 30.00 and turn it in Monday. The t-shirts will be given out the day of the walk, October 6th. The students will have the opportunity to tie-dye the shirts at one of the stations during the walk.
It should be a lot of fun!

Walk-a-thon Sponsor Collecting Starts Today!

Today the students will be bringing home the information for the Walk-a-thon. They can collext sponors beginning today. Early prizes are given for students who collect at least $30 and turn in by next Monday, September 26th. All sponsor money needs to be turned in by Monday, October 3rd. The Walk-a-thon will be held on Thursday, October 6th.

Please see the following flyer, information sheet, and video (made by our very own Principal Mr. Jones and Mr. Smith - thank you!) for all the details.

I just wanted to give you a projected run down of expenses that we normally do every year. This is not everything but, this is where we start;
Teacher Reimbursements – $6500.00 (approx)

The Money Savers Card program will also be starting in a couple weeks. This is put on by the District’s Foundation Group. The Foundation’s money goes towards grants for teachers and students.

News from Central Wildcat Pride - September 6th Meeting

Room Parents - Teachers will be in charge of getting and working with their room parents. Party Dates will be set soon and we will get those out! Please contact me if you need a phone number or email for someone.

Walk-A-Thon - Looking at October 6th or 13th. A planning meeting will be held September 13th at 7:00 PM in Central’s Cafeteria. Interested in helping: Tyann Marcink, Beth Reed, Ben and Dawn Butler, Phil and Karen Hamilton, Jennifer Phelps, Dotty Harker, Angie Wilson, Ann Marie Hoerr.

Funds from the Walk-A-Thon will assist with the following:

$5.00 per student to grade levels to help with fieldtrips.

Teachers are given 125.00 to use in their classrooms.

Special area teachers receive $200.00.

Building technology and playground equipment are also purchased with these funds.

Movie Night – We are going to move Movie Night to January

Fall Festival – October 21st from 6 pm to 8 pm. Planning will be Donnie Schuttenberg, Ben and Dawn Butler, Angie Wilson.

Angel Tree - Michelle Prewitt, Lisa Braun, Alicia Ruessing, Dotty Harker, Angi Wilson.

Holiday Boutique – scheduled for December 15th with December 19th as make-up day. Planning will be Valerie Howland, Amanda Bequette, Angi Wilson, Phil and Karen Hamilton.

We are adding Donuts with Santa this year! Scheduled for December 3rd. People interested in planning: Angi Wilson, Jennifer Phelps, Ann Marie Hoerr, Phil and Karen Hamilton.

We will look at 2nd semester activities as we get closer to that time.

Communication - We will send an agenda email before meeting and notes from the meeting after they are done. They are also posted on Facebook.

Goals!
All activates need to be for families - cheap, if not free.

Dates for meeting are the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. Our next regular meeting is schedule for Oct. 4th.

Great Start to the Year!

I want to thank all of you for your patience during our first days of school this year! Drop off and pick-up is always a little hectic at Central Elementary. With your help, most everything has been very smooth.

I want to invite everyone to our first CWP (Central Wildcat Pride) meeting on September 6th at 6:30 in the cafeteria. The CWP is our PTO organization here at Central. We have one fundraiser and a lot of different activities. For example we have our Fall Festival, Bingo Night, Movie Night, Father/ Daughter and Mother/ Son dances, Christmas Boutique and the Angel Tree. With all of these different activities we look for as much help as possible. With each activity we try and get a chair person and helpers to plan and run the activities.

Joplin Relief, CWP Update, Parent survey, dump truck

Hello Parents,

The end of the year is coming fast! I have to say that I have truly loved working with your children this year!!

Just a reminder that next Tuesday and Wednesday will be half days. Students will be dismissed at approximately 11:45.

We are going to have a "hat or pajama" day tomorrow in an effort to raise money for the victims in Joplin. If the students will bring in a dollar they can wear a hat or their pajamas.

We also have a “climate survey” attached to the parent portal within SIS. If you would please take the time to fill it out we would greatly appreciate it. Just log in as if you were looking at your student’s grades and you should see a link there.

We are looking for someone that may have a small dump truck that would be able to help us haul some dirt into our Outdoor Classroom. We have the dirt, but we were hoping to make it a little easier to get it where we need it. Just contact the office if you have any ideas. Thank you!

News from Central Wildcat Pride Meeting May 24th -
The Central Wildcat Pride met on May 24th here at Central.
Things that were discussed:
Open House dates- Aug. 18th from 5 to 6:30 pm fork K and 1st grade - 6:30 to 8pm for 2nd and 3rd grade. (ice cream or cookies?)

Room Parents- Teachers will be in charge of getting and working with their room parents.

Fundraisers- Choices, dates and spending
The CWP held one major fundraise last year using Signature Fundraising Source. We are going to try something new. CWP is going to hold a “Walk-A-Thon.” Details will be added at a later date. The administration will still hold their “Clubs Choice” fundraiser in February and we will request “carnival prizes” from this company to give away at the festival.

This money helps pay for, classroom activities, technology and family activities.

LAST YEAR- these are the activities that were held 1st semester and who the contact were for the activity. Those people will be asked if they would like to “head” it up again, but we are ALWAYS LOOKING FOR HELP.

Basketball Camp for 1st through 3rd graders

The Union Boys Basketball Program will be holding a basketball camp for boys entering grades 1-3. The camp will be June 6th & 7th from 9:00-11:00am at Central Elementary School. The cost is $20 per camper. Registration forms will be sent home with kids and kept in the office at Central. However, you do not have to pre register. Registration for camp will also begin at 8:30am the first morning. Basketballs will be provided.

Hello Parents, Just a couple of reminders: Report cards are on their way home! Thursday we are celebrating Cardinals Day for the Home Opener!! Wear your Cardinals gear!!! Also, Thursday night we have our 1st Grade Music Program & Art Show at 7:00. Kids need to be in the cafeteria at 6:45. Friday night is CWP’s BINGO Night from 6:30-8:30. We will also be selling raffle tickets to “name the street” around Central. Tickets will be on sale at BINGO Night and in the office until the 8th of April. They will be $1.00 a ticket or 6 for $5.00. The name of the street will need to be approved by Administration. There are still pictures at Walgreens from the Father/ Daughter and Mother/Son dances. American Heart Association’s 2011 Franklin County Start! Heart Walk

Union School District is excited to support the American Heart Association’s 2011 Franklin County Start! Heart Walk on Saturday, March 19th at the Washington Fairgrounds. The Start! Heart Walk promotes walking as a part of a healthy lifestyle and raises funds to support cardiovascular research and educational programs. This family fun 1 mile walk around the lake or the 3 mile walk on the streets of Washington will conclude at the Swine Pavilion and will offer a unique experience for participants to create hope, inspire change and celebrate success while gaining more knowledge on cardiovascular disease and stroke.

I would like to encourage everyone to join the Union School District team and walk with us on March 19th. If you are unable to walk with us you may go online and make a donation. Please consider joining our team.

Christmas Boutiques - We are planning for this to happen on Dec 16th and if needed the 17th.

After we see what type of donations are brought in, CWP will help supplement the cost of extra gifts.

Chuck E Cheese - 3 trips November 30th, Dec 1st, and Dec 7th.

We are looking into the possibility of getting a couple trees for the back playground to add some shade to the area.

We are also looking at different ideas for equipment on the playground areas.

Fall Festival and Soldier Care Packages

Also, our student council is collecting items to send to our soldiers overseas. Please bring something to their booth at the Fall Festival tomorrow evening. Following is a list of items that can be sent in the packages:

I wanted to give you an update on the Giving Tree (Angel Tree) that Lisa Braun and I do every year. Both Lisa and I have daughters that dance on Tuesday evenings that conflict with CWP meetings. As of right now I have already made contact with Social Services and they are getting the ball rolling. Since we are doing the Giving Tree (Angel Tree) at Central and Clark Vitt we wanted to run some dates by you. We were looking at November 16 and November 17 for the students to choose their angels and then December 1 and December 2 for the students to return their gifts. These dates are around the dates we chose last year and they seemed to work well.

Homecoming is this Friday!

On Friday, if parents want to pick-up early for the parade or any other reason, they need to pick up before noon. If anyone out of the ordinary is picking up a child early, we need a note to teacher.

We will be sitting along Springfield Avenue by class. Please do not to sit in the roped off sections. Also, please do not try to sit with the classes because it is very hard to distinguish adults that should not be with the classes if we have a lot of non-staff members with the students.
We will dismiss at normal Friday time, however, please be patient as we will probably be running behind due to the festivities!!

I also want to thank everyone for their donations to our recess equipment! The kids are really enjoying all the new balls, the basketball hoop and the play house!

Just a reminder to please refrain from using your cell phones when dropping off or picking up students. We have had one minor finder bender where no one was hurt, but as you know it could have been much worse!

We have also found some cigarette butts around the driveway. If you happen to see any of these could you please help us by picking them up so the students do not find them during recess or any other time.

PICTURE DAY IS TOMORROW!! September 9th!

Parents if you are dropping off your child and they are eating breakfast here at school, could you please have them here by 7:30 so they have enough time to eat and be in class by 7:50.

Last Night’s CWP meeting:

They will be giving $5.00 per child to each grade level to help offset the cost of field trips.

Family Movie Night is scheduled for this Friday night rain or shine. If it does rain we will move it into the gym.

The Fall Festival is on track for October 22nd.

Soccer Goals - Mr. Fennessey is working with a few people to make some soccer goals for the upper playground. He asked if the CWP could help with any cost in this project.

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to thank everyone that brought in balls and toys for the students to use at recess. We are dividing them out to get them into circulation.

Tomorrow the students will be bringing home their Signature Fundraiser Booklets. Please take the opportunity to look them over and see if there is anything you can use : )

We are also starting to see some problems with the "silly bracelets." We have not banned them yet, but please remind your child to wear them correctly or leave them at home. If they are being worn incorrectly, we will need to take them away from the student for the parent to pick up.

Central is looking for some help!

Do you like to go to garage sales? Do you have things in your basement that the students can play with one the playground?

We are looking for balls and any of the Little Tykes plastic outdoor equipment for the kids to use.
All items will be checked for safety before they will be put to use.

Our CWP has playground equipment as one of the things we are going to purchase this year, but that will not happen until after the fundraiser, which will not be finalized until October or November.

Note on Morning Drop-offs

Hello Parents!

What a fun and exciting first week of school we have had! I would like to thank everyone for their patience when it comes to drop-off and pick-up. Even when the fire alarm goes off !

We are always looking for ways to speed the process up while continuing to keep the students safety at the highest level. A couple of things we are going to do for the morning process is:

allow kids into the building at 7:15.
at 7:40 we are going to open a second lane around the flag pole for drop-offs. The only problem with this is we can’t slow down the busses. In this lane we will need parents to pull up as far as possible (all the way to the end of the edge of the sidewalk that is painted blue) and to have everyone along the sidewalk allow their children out of the car.
the best way to not have to wait in line is to be here before 7:25!!

A reminder, school is starting at 7:50 this year. If you arrive after 7:50 you will need to park and bring your student into the building.

Dear Parents of students who ride the bus,

Student safety is the primary concern when it comes to transporting our students. In that regard we want to go over some general safety issues that may arise in the upcoming year.
Changing the bus or destinations in which your child will ride in the afternoon.

• Some parents have set routines; everyday your child rides the same bus to the same location. That is great, because the driver knows that student and where he/she lives and this is a safe situation for the child.

• Some parents have set routines also that may differ than that above, for example a child may ride bus “A” on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, while on Wednesday and Friday the child rides bus “B”. As long as this is a set pattern, this is also great because the drivers knows that student and where he/she lives or where he/she needs to be dropped off and this is a safe situation for the child.

• A big safety concern however is; when the schools get phone calls saying that a child needs to ride a different bus to a different location. This causes concern because:

1. The child may not know where he/she is going thus confusing the child and he/she may get off at a wrong location because the driver may not know the child.

2. We cannot be 100% sure that the person making the phone call has the authority to make that change for the child.

3. It becomes very confusing for the school and our students at dismissal time trying to make sure what bus the child is supposed to ride. When there is confusion, a child may not know what he/she is supposed to do.

NEW PROCEDURES for the Safety of our Students:

1. We ask that if there will be a change, we receive either a hand written note with a signature, a fax with a signature, or an e-mail with a PDF with a written signature. We must receive this change no less than 24 hours in advance.

2. We do realize that there will be emergencies; however, these should be limited and will be handled on a case by case basis.

We understand this may take more planning, but it is for the safety and welfare of all of our children. We want to ensure every child is dropped off at the proper location with the appropriate supervision.

News from Central Wildcat Pride...

The Central Wildcat Pride met on July 13th here at Central.

Thing that were discussed:

Open House dates
Aug. 17tt from 5 to 6:30 pm k and 1st grade- 6:30 to 8pm 2nd and 3rd grade.
(ice cream or cookies?) Parents serve so teachers can mingle and rotate to work in their rooms.
We are looking for parents that would be interested in serving during part of this time. Please reply if you are interested in helping out.

Signature Fundraising group will have samples at Open House.

Room Parents - Teachers will be in charge of getting and working with their room parents.

Fundraisers - Choices, dates and spending
The CWP held one major fundraise last year using Signature Fundraising Source. We are going to do this same fundraiser this fall. We would like to add playground equipment to the small playground in the back of Central.

LAST YEAR- these are the activities that were held 1st semester and who the contact were for the activity. Those people will be asked if they would like to “head” it up again, but we are ALWAYS LOOKING FOR HELP.

April Meeting Minutes

Julie Duvall reported that the account currently has $11,043.45. Funds that still need to be distributed from that are for 1st and 3rd grade field trips, several teacher allocations, the SmartBoard, MAP snacks, and Teacher Appreciation lunch.

Julie noted that Dr. Stephens is now looking at InterWrite Boards versus the SmartBoard, as the school can get several InterWrites to the cost of one SmartBoard.

Julie also said that CWP stuffed and "hid" nearly 3,000 eggs for the egg hunt. The students enjoyed it immensely. Thank you to the parents and teachers who helped out. Special thank you to the businesses that sponsored the event, including AQM Computer Help.

Donnie Schuttenberg announced that CWP will be sponsoring Teacher Appreciation Week, May 3rd to 7th. A few businesses have given gift certificates and other small items for the teachers. Any other donations are still being sought. He also said that CWP would be sponsoring a catered lunch for the teachers on a to be determined day during that week. Catering would be by C&D Catering, who is his aunt.

The first meeting for the 2010-2011 school year will be Tuesday, July 13th at 6 p.m. at Central Elementary. Any further planning for next year was put on hold since Mr. Jones was unable to attend the meeting.

BINGO! was so much fun!

Students and parents packed out the cafeteria to play Bingo last Friday evening. What a blast it was! Everyone munched on popcorn, sipped sodas, and attempted to keep their sleeves from knocking the beans off their cards.

There were a ton of door prizes given away, two large raffle baskets and a Skaterz birthday party raffled off, and the Blackout winner also received a Skaterz birthday party. Everyone had lots of fun.

Thank you to the parents who organized this event - Krista Stranghoener and Julie Duvall!

Minutes for Meeting, March 2nd

Meeting began with a welcome by Tyann Marcink.

Julie Duvall was absent, so Krista Stranghoener reported for Julie that the only expenditure the past month was one teacher check for $125. Everything else has stayed the same.

Krista said that Bingo Night was on track, and that they have many door prizes from business donations. Skaterz donated two birthday parties. One will be used for a raffle, and the other used for the blackout prize. Cards will be $1 each, and soda and popcorn will be 50 cents each.

Brandy was unable to attend, so Krista reported for her. She is need of parent volunteers for stuffing eggs with candy and prizes, as well as set up on Saturday morning. She is not getting a lot of business sponsors, so she requested if CWP could purchase eggs to make up the difference, most likely around 1,000 more eggs will be needed. The group approved the expenditure.

Tyann reported that Kasey Straatmann is working on getting bids and designs together for the CWP shirts. Anyone with an idea for a design is asked to email it to Kasey at kaseystraatmann@sbcglobal.net. The goal is to have a few shirts available by the first of the school year for parents to purchase. Ongoing orders would be taken and then placed everyo ther month or when a specific number has been reached.

Traci Canby was unable attend, so Tyann reported for her about the MAP goodie bags. Sam's Club has the best prices for cheese sticks, pre sliced apples, granola bars, and oatmeal bars. She is looking for parent helpers each morning.

The group decided that April will be the final meeting for the school year. The first meeting for the 2010-2011 school year will be in August.

Julie Duvall has stated that she would like to remain treasurer for the next school year. If someone would like to help her out and train for the position to take over the following year, she would be happy to do that.

Amanda Bequette was unable to attend, so we do not know if she would like to be secretary next year.

Mr. Jones, the new principal beginning next year and current principal at Clark Vitt, described how the Clark Vitt parent/teacher group worked. He leads the meetings and delegates organizers for events. Tyann asked him to consider how he would like the CWP to run next year.

There was general discussion about the CWP events that were held this past fall, and the consensus was that we would like to do them again if possible.

Dr. Stephens suggested doing an actual Open House in the fall some time so that students could show parents their classrooms, the cafeteria, gym, etc.

Third grade is set to go to the Science Center on May 12th for their field trip. Kindergarten is going to the Earth's Classroom in Rosebud on 3 different days in April and May.

CWP January Meeting Minutes

Tinecia started the meeting by thanking everyone for attending.

We started with the Angel Tree program. Tyann thanked everyone for helping. She said that all the kids had fun doing it.

Tyann stated that their will be a new sign advertising Trivia Night. So far we have 5 teams that are signed up and an announcement will be going out in the paper. We have a lot of donations to help us get this event going.

Amanda stated that the Holiday boutique went well. We did run out of items and had to go and buy more the day of the event. It has been requested that the money raised be saved and used next year to help pay for items since there is non to start off with. It was said that the Santa dollars were a great success and we plan on using them next year.

The Central Family Cookbooks are still in the planning stages, but it will consist of students bringing in recipes'.

There was no one to talk about Bingo, but the date is March 12^th.

Amber Eads has requested to be chair-person for the MAP testing goodie bags. This will be for the 3^rd graders taking the test.

During open discussion Coach Fennessey requested that the CWP spend $250.00 to help pay for a 9 hole mini golf set. All present voted and agreed that we will spend the $250.00. He hopes to have this ready by spring since he will be building this himself.

Julie gave the treasurer report. The Holiday Boutique brought in $847.28 after expenditures. Trivia Night is ahead $20.00. Right now we have $11,650.19 with expenditures of around $3600.00. We should be receiving invoices for 2 smart boards.

Trivia Night with both a Teacher Auction and Circle Drive Naming Rights Auction

Union City Auditorium
$10 per person, teams of 8 to 10

This event is to raise money for next year’s field trips for the students. The school does not pay for these learning experiences, and CWP believes the field trips are an incredibly important part of our children’s education.

There will be 10 rounds of 10 questions each, with a teacher or staff member auctioned off before each round to help a team for that set of questions.

We will also auction off naming rights of the circle drive around Central Elementary. Winning bidder chooses the name of the circle drive, which will have a sign erected at the street corner soon after. Name will stay in place until the next auction (approximately one year).

Other activities include a 50/50 raffle, a heads and tails game, and mulligans. Zeke, a character created by local comedian Dave Schmitz, will be the guest auctioneer.

You may bring in your own snacks, and CWP will provide soda, coffee, and water. Participants must be age 16 yrs. and older, please.

Teams that sign up before January 9th will be entered into a drawing for a special family gift basket. Basket will include many family items, with the main prize being a family portrait sitting and an 11 x 14 inch photograph, provided by Holly Kommina of Kommina Studio LLC.

CWP December Meeting Minutes

- Everyone was welcomed by Tyann Marcink.

- Julie Duvall, treasurer, reported there is currently $11, 648.92 in the CWP account. The 2nd grade field trip total paid out was $942.00, and the K field trip pay out was $1010.00 (figure was misreported last month). After deducting the 1st and 3rd grade field trips and the remainder of the teacher payouts, there is possibly enough to purchase another SmartBoard and projector for the teachers next month. This will be looked at again at the January meeting and voted upon at that time.

Julie said there have been several emails sent to her questioning the amount each CWP activity has to spend. The group discussed that there is no set amount for each activity, that it just depends on the type of activity, as some events have costs involved and other events do not have costs. If there is an activity or event being organized, then the organizers need to attend a CWP meeting and request the funds needed for the event.

The mounting cost of paper, specifically the red paper for the newsletters, was discussed. Julie may have found a way to purchase red paper by the case and save approximately 50% from the current cost of purchasing the paper in reams from Quality Copy. The teachers highly recommended keeping the newsletters on red paper so that the communication does not get lost as easily in the stacks of papers that are sent home with the students. The group voted and decided to keep the newsletters on red paper and to continue that expense.

- Teacher representatives said that 3rd grade has decided on the Science Center for their field trip and that 1st grade is still discussing it but have the Earth Classroom at the top of the list. Dates are to be determined. CWP will pay out $5 per child for the field trips, same as K and 2nd grade field trips.

- Angel Tree committee was unable to attend to give an update. Gifts for the angels are due to school by December 3rd.

- Kasey Straatmann reported on the Holiday Boutique progress. The committee is making the boutique area in the gym more festive and have permission to play fun Christmas music during the time. 3rd graders are making gift bags in art class, which help out with the gift wrapping. They have received a $50 gift card from Wal-Mart and plan to purchase men's gifts with it. They are also asking Target and Dollar Tree for donations.

Brandy McKenzie suggested using pretend dollars this year (aka Boutique Bucks or Santa Bucks) so that students who do not bring in the $2 to shop can still participate without feeling embarrassed. Students have always been allowed to shop, with or without the $2, and this route would be a way for those students to participate without other students knowing who brought in the $2 and who did not. Students would hand in their $2 to the teacher, and then the teacher would give each student the play money before going into the boutique. The money would then be collected from the teachers.

- Tyann Marcink reported on the Trivia Night. The location has been sponsored by local banks and businesses and will be at the City Auditorium. There is no cost to the CWP, and the committee does not anticipate any cost for the event. The committee was also given permission to place a street sign for the drop off / pick up circle drive around school and to auction off the naming rights for one year. Winning bidder may name the drive anything they would like, within reason and with school approval.

- Dr. Stephens suggested doing the pizza fundraiser again this year, as it raised approximately $3,000 last year. After more discussion, CWP decided to let the teachers do the pizza fundraiser while CWP focuses on other projects.

- Julie Duvall and Krista Stranghoener are co-chairs for the Bingo night and decided on Friday, March 12th for the event. Tyann Marcink suggested doing a cookie contest during Bingo, which would then take care of refreshments for the event. She added that winners of the contest could then be published in a Central Elementary cookbook.

- After further discussion of the cookbook idea, Julie Duvall and Tyann Marcink will co-chair a family cookbook and request recipes from the students. Student names will be published with the recipe that they submit. Submissions will begin in January and then include the cookie contest winners. Tyann Marcink will design the cookbook. Artwork for the front and sections will be done by students.

- Julie Duvall suggested putting together goodie bags for the students taking the MAP test in March/April. Ideas for items to include in the bags were granola bars, breakfast bars, and #2 pencils. The teachers thought this was a great idea. CWP will need some co-chairs and volunteers for this activity. Date to be determined.

- Brandy McKenzie suggested having an Egg Hunt for the students and their families in the spring. She will check with the Parks Department when their annual Egg Hunt is scheduled for so that it is not the same day. Brandy will co-chair and will need another co-chair and volunteers to help. Date to be determined.

- Kasey Straatmann suggested creating Central Elementary t-shirts specifically for parents so parents and students do not have the same shirt. She is checking into pricing. Looking at taking ongoing orders and filling the orders every other month or so. Definitely would have order forms available for parents at Open House next August.

Meeting Minutes

November 3, 2009

The meeting was called to order by Tyann. Tyann thanked everyone for coming and asked Julie to give the treasurer report.

Julie stated that there was no expenses for the fall festival. We did give each custodian $20.00 for cleaning up since it was a Friday night. We have about $12,400.00 in the account to help with the teacher money and field trips. We spent $1266.00 for the Kindergartners and $384.00 so far for the 2nd graders. We have not gotten all the invoices yet for their field trip. It was decided that we have enough money to go ahead and purchase one smart board for the school. When we get more money we can purchase additional items.

Next, Donnie and Krista talked about the fall festival. Again there was no cost to CWP for the festival. Everything was donated so they thanked everyone again for all the donations and help. The 50/50 raffle brought in $ 120.00, the cake walk $210.25, The pumpkins that the teachers helped with brought in around $55.00. They forgot to keep track of which teachers had what money so we will be giving all of the money to the teachers instead of splitting it as discussed before. Admissions brought in $529.00. Our part is $710.00. Donnie stated that we will be doing a fall festival again since it was a great turnout.

Tyann stated that the Angel Tree program had information going home with the students that day.

Amanda stated that the Holiday Boutique will be December 17 in the gym. We will be keeping the format the same as previous years for the teachers. We will be spicing it up a little adding music and decorations. There will be a letter going home with the students regarding donations of items that will be needed. This letter will be sent out after the Angel Tree gift are to be returned.

Tyann talked about Trivia Night which will be in January. The location will be in Central's cafeteria. There will be up to 12 people to a table and the cost is $100.00 per table. This is a fundraiser event and is intended to cover the cost of the field trips. We will be auctioning off teachers to help a table during a round of their choice. The money raised will be split with all the teachers that are helping that night. We will also be doing a 50/50 raffle and be selling mulligans. Players can bring their own refreshments, but there will be items for sell. A letter will be put on the Central Wildcat Pride website to give to possible sponsors and players, you will be able to print it out and give out to them.

Tyann asked if anyone had any more ideas for future family fun nights. Bingo, Donkey Ball and another movie night were suggested.

Julie suggested that we do something for the students that will start the MAP testing. It was suggested that we do some sort of refreshments for them.

Field trips for the 1 and 3rd grades have not been decided at this time.

Fall Festival was a Huge Hit!

The weather was almost as frightful as some costumes, but the verdict was in before the evening was over...

"I love, love, love it!" commented one little boy, breathless from running.

"This is just awesome!" shouted a little girl on the fly between activities.

Mists of rain and just plain cold didn't keep away our Central Elementary families. Well over 500 parents, children, and family converged upon the school grounds for an evening of fantastic fun.

CWP MEETING MINUTES

October 2009

The meeting was called to order by Tinicea Schuttenberg at 6:00 pm at Central Elementary.

Tinicea thanked everyone for coming.

Valerie Howland said that the Circus tickets raised $162.00 for Central and a picture was taken with the CWP members and the Kiwanis members.

Donnie updated us on movie night. He stated that it was a very good turn out and we only spent $33.00 for the whole event. What a wonderful time everyone had.

Donnie also updated us on the Signature fundraiser. The total sales amount was $18,933.30. Central will get to keep $9,500 to use for our goal items. He also stated that Signature will be dropping off the orders on November 21, and they will take them off of the trucks and set them up for us. We will only need to be there to give to the parents when they come in and pick them up.

Donnie said that the Signature company will also be donating items for the fall festival. What a great company!! Thank you Signature.

Next we talked about the different grade field trips. We gave the kindergarteners $1010.00 which was $5.00 per child. The 1st graders still had not decided on where they were going for their field trip. The second grade is going to the Magic House and the cost is unknown. The third graders are going to the Science Center and the cost is unknown at this time as well.

Kasey Straatmann talked about the room parent meeting. She said that it went well. All parents were given their folders and everyone that had questions were able to ask. It should be a good year of fun parties.

Michelle Pruitt talked about the Angle Tree program. Students will be able to get a angel on November 11 & 12. Drop off will be December 2 &3 and NO Gift cards allowed this year. All angels will be given a present.

Trivia Night will be January 23rd. Amber Eads and Tyann Marcink will be chairing that event. There will be 50/50 raffles, teacher auctions and the goal is to raise enough money for the 1st and 3rd grade field trips in the Spring.

Sally Brock has volunteered to help the teachers with copying and mail on Wed. & Friday's. Thanks Sally!!

The school was wonderful and said that as long as the CWP provides the paper we can use their copier for printing all the newsletters that go out to the students. This will save the CWP a lot of money this year.

Lastly, Donnie talked about the Fall Festival. It will be October 23, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. The cost will be $1.00 per child ages 2 and up. The cake walk and the pumpkin raffle will be $.50 each. All other activities, games, food and drinks will be free of charge. The goal is for a family fun night and not a fundraiser. Donnie mentioned that a lot of businesses were donating items and that we were getting wonderful support from the community.

Donnie also asked the teachers to purchase a pumpkin and have the class to decide what to carve. The teacher will then carve the pumpkin and that pumpkin will be raffled off at the fall festival. The class that wins will receive half of the winnings.

Parents were thanked for attending the meeting.

The room parent packets will be handed out for each class, so if you volunteered to help organize at least one of the room parties for your student(s), please come get the information and meet the other parents for your class.

After the packets are handed out, we'll have a time for parents to ask questions and give ideas for room parties.

If you have not turned in your form and/or $3 to your teacher yet, please do so immediately - we would really appreciate it! CASH ONLY, PLEASE!

Circus Tickets Winner and Movie Night Success!

For an attendance prize at the Movie Night, the Kiwanis gave the CWP 4 tickets to the circus! Gavin Mendez, Kindergarten, won the prize. Yeah, Gavin! Also in the picture is Mrs. Griefe, teacher and Kiwanis member, and Tyann Marcink and Valerie Howland, CWP supporters.

Don't forget to order your circus tickets with the order form that came home with your student last Friday - for every ticket that sells through the school, the CWP receives $1 to use towards the fun family activites that we're planning for this year!

We had an awesome turnout at Movie Night last Friday! Thank you to all the families who attended. And special thanks to Traci Canby and her crew for organizing the event, as well as our sponsors Pepsi, 7up, Great 8 Cinema, and McDonald's of Union.

Everyone had a wonderful time, every bit of popcorn was eaten, and clean up was finished in 10 minutes - wow! We look forward to possible having another Movie Night in the spring since this was such a success.

Next event is the Fall Festival, scheduled for Friday, October 23rd, at the school. We plan to have games, face painting, a cake walk, and even a teacher's pumpkin carving/decorating contest. CWP MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 1, 2009

The meeting was called to order by Tyann Marcink at 6:10 pm at Central Elementary.

Tyann opened the meeting by introducing herself co-chair, Tinicea Schuttenberg co-chair, Amanda Bequette secretary, and Julie Duvall treasurer.

Dr. Stephens said hello and stated that this meeting had the biggest turn out from any other meeting.

Tyann went over how the CWP blog worked and what information would be posted on it. Items likes meeting minutes, meeting dates, activities, activity dates, activity chairs, and many more items.

Tyann also stated that the first CWP newsletter went out with the students and said that all newsletters will be sent home with the children each month. The letters will be printed on red paper so parents will know that it is from the CWP. These letters will be sent out on Fridays per the teachers requests.

Tinecia talked about the TREND program. We would like to have them come to our CWP meetings and provide a daycare like setting to watch our children during the meetings. This will help us run the meetings more smoothly and also help the club get their required volunteer time.

Amber Eads spoke regarding the CCT and room parents. CCT will not be picking the room parents. It was decided by both the teachers and CWP to have the teachers pick the parent(s). Amber will update the form so that it will resemble the new CWP and not the old PTO and hopefully the parents will look at it more carefully. On September 15, at 6:00 pm the CWP will get together and put the room parents packets together.

Dr. Stephens talked about the field trips for this year. The field trips are picked by the teachers and not the CWP. The field trips will align with the class curriculum.

Julie went over the budget. We have around $6,200 to work with until our Signature fundraiser is complete. It was decided that we will give each grade $5.00 per student to cover costs of the field trips. We will adjust the number of students as needed for each grade level.

The teachers will still be getting $125.00 per teacher to help with classroom items from the CWP.
Tracy went over movie night. It will be on September 11, 2009 at Central Elementary. The movie is free, but movie goers can purchase snacks. The movie will be Everyone's Hero and the theme is baseball so all should wear their baseball attire.

Tyann mentioned that we should have someone to do the public relations regarding all activities that the CWP will be doing and Donnie Schuttenberg volunteered for this.

Nicki Voss stated that library volunteers are needed. The office and teachers also need help so anyone interested please call the school and talk with her.

We had a representative from the Kiwanis's club talk about the circus coming up October 11 and mentioned a easy way to sell tickets and raise money for the school. The CWP has agreed that this would be a great way to raise money.

Donnie talked about the new fundraiser for Central. It is called Signature and we will start selling Friday September 4. It will be a 50% profit on what we sell and the Signature company will take care of all the deliveries and have everything set up for our parents to pick up. The money due date will be September 23 and the pick up date for the items will be October 21.

Donnie also noted that he will be calling parents to start on getting the fall festival going.

There will be a trivia night January 23 and Tyann will be chair this event.

MOVIE NIGHT

Preshow begins at 7 p.m., and the movie will begin at dark.

Wear your favorite baseball jersey and bring the lawn chairs! Come join us for a family movie night outside of school. We'll watch the animated Everyone's Hero on the big screen while munching on popcorn.

CWP will have popcorn and sodas for purchase, or bring your own snacks and drinks. Please, no alcohol or glass. Remember this is a family event - no drop offs. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Yes, it was! Thank you to all the parents and teachers who attended the CWP meeting Tuesday night. It took a very long time to push through all of the items in the agenda, but we made it before 8 p.m. and survived. Thank you for your patience and for participating in the meeting. We received many wonderful ideas that we are moving forward with!

Please look for the minutes of the meeting to be posted on the blog soon. If you can't wait, feel free to give any parent involved with the CWP a ring on the phone.

The Anticipation has Only Just Begun

Tomorrow school officially begins for our students! Whether the anticipation has them ecstatic, nervous, or frightened, the teachers and staff at Central Elementary are ready to embrace each student at the door and welcome each one into the Central family.

Throughout the year, keep an eye on the CWP blog for posts from not only the CWP on upcoming activities, but posts from Principal Stephens, Vice-Principal Assarah, and Secretary Nickie Voss with important information. If you haven't already, sign up for posts by email. Just enter your email address at the left and press "subscribe."

We're quite excited about all of the activities we have planned this year, including a Movie Night, Fall Festival, Trivia Night with Teacher Auction, and more. If you are interested in helping us out, please sign up here and then join the planning forum. We need help from many, many parents to make these activities something the students will talk about for months and months.

The CWP and Central Elementary are looking forward to seeing you at school and all of the fun activities this school year!

Click on an event, and it will give more information for it. You will also have the option of automatically adding it to your personal calendar if you use Google calendars.
Bookmark this particular post and refer back to it when you need to look up a date.
Do you notice something we forgot to add to the calendar or a see a mistake? Please don't hesitate to let us know so we can correct it.

Features of the CWP Blog

The CWP Blog is the “go to” place for all information on the CWP activities, so be sure to bookmark it right away. The blog has many features to help everyone to stay up-to-date with what is going on in our efforts to make Central Elementary and our children’s educations excel.

First in the left column is a place to subscribe to all of the blog posts. By entering your email address and pressing “Submit,” you will automatically receive emails when a post has been published on the CWP blog. We may also use the subscriber list to send out important emails.

Below that is a list of important posts that you may want to refer to for general information. You can also access posts using the search box and the archives.

Next is the Facebook application. With a single click, you can become a fan of CWP on Facebook. Blog posts will also be posted on the CWP fan page, which will then show in your newsfeed on Facebook.

Last on the left side is the CWP parent volunteers. The number of parents posted on the blog page is limited so that the blog is not overwhelmed. To see the entire list of parents and their contact information, just click the link below the names. You can also click here. The same page has a place to submit your information and to volunteer to help with upcoming activities.

On the right column, the first thing is our request for parent volunteers. We can’t stress enough how much we love to have more parents help with CWP and the activities. We know every parent has a strong desire for the best education for their child, and the CWP’s purpose is to achieve the best education for Central Elementary students. Just follow the link to the parent list and fill out the short form to let us know you want to volunteer. (Please note that the parent list does not update automatically when you submit your info.)

After that is a search feature for the blog. If you are looking for specific information, type in a keyword or two, and this will search the blog for the info you are requesting.

Next is the CWP calendar. Click on it and it will show all of the current dates and deadlines for activities. If you have Google calendar, just click on an event, and then you can automatically add the event to your personal calendar. (How sweet is that?!)

If you have an idea or suggestion on how to improve the blog and communication or know of another cool widget that we absolutely need to add, please do not hesitate to let us know. You can submit a comment to this post or email or call any parent involved with CWP. We would like to be able to respond to your ideas, so if you respond with a comment on the blog, please be sure to sign in with an email address and not post anonymously.

The CWP blog is a wonderful tool that will assist the CWP in passing along information to all parents who are interested. We are dedicated to being a fantastic organization for parents and teachers to further enrich our children’s educations.

Welcome to the brand new blog for the awesome Central Wildcat Pride! The CWP is organizing exciting activities throughout the year for the Central students, and this is the place to find all of the information.

We invite all parents to attend meetings, volunteer for activities, and to get involved. The CWP wants to make Central Elementary an even better school for our children.
